On 27th June 2018, Dr. Juanita Joseph, an advisor of FOSTER and an associate professor of Borneo Marine Research Institute of Universiti Malaysia Sabah wrote to FOSTER seeking sponsorship for one of their students, Ms. Nurul Natasya binti Hanafiah to conduct her final year research project at Walai Penyu Conservation Park, Libaran from 25th January to 6th February 2019. The title of the project was on ’Nesting and hatching success of sea turtles at Libaran Island’.

Ms. Nurul Natasya returned again to Walai Penyu Conservation Park in August to complete her research project. During her time there, she tabulated the landing data, hatchling and release numbers of Walai Penyu Conservation Park since 2012. Ms. Nurul Natasya successfully completed her work in January 2020.

FOSTER sponsored her transportation to and accommodation at the island.

-During 2nd to 5th September 2015, a production company called Kyanite TV, filmed a documentary regarding the turtle conservation work on Libaran. It was to be part of a series profiling personalities involved in conservation work in Sarawak and Sabah.

The documentary series “Frontier Borneo” was aired a year later in 2017 on Discovery Channel and the segment on Libaran was featured in Season 1 episode 7.

In June 2018, Channel News Asia came to Walai Penyu Conservation Park and filmed the sea turtle conservation work.

The highly popular documentary “Chef’s Mission” was in its 7th season and Libaran Island was featured in the 19th episode. It was aired in August 2018.
